Prammanasudh remains hot; leads suspended MasterCard Classic

03/10/2007 - Mexico City, Mexico (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Stacy Prammanasudh, who won the Fields Open in Hawaii two weeks ago, opened with a five-under-par 67 Friday and leads the suspended MasterCard Classic.
Inclement weather moved in just after 4:00 p.m. (et) and play was halted. After a lengthy delay, the first round was eventually suspended for the evening. The round will resume Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the second round starting at 9:00 a.m.
Laura Davies and Marcy Hart each posted rounds of four-under-par 68 Friday and share second place. They were joined there by Hee-Won Han, who has played 13 holes, and Christina Kim, who is through 11 holes.
World No. 1 and two-time defending champion Annika Sorenstam made her season debut Friday. She carded a three-under-par 69 and was tied for sixth with Natalie Gulbis and Mi Hyun Kim among others.
Hometown favorite Lorena Ochoa is part of a group tied for 21st at minus-one. Ochoa notched four birdies and three bogeys in her round of 71.
Prammanasudh collected her first birdie on the par-four third. After a birdie at five, she tripped to her only bogey of the round on the sixth at BosqueReal Country Club.
The 27-year-old recovered that lost stroke with a two-foot birdie putt at the par-five ninth. Prammanasudh birdied the next par-five, the 12th, from eight feet out to get to minus-three.
Two holes later, Prammanasudh rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt to gain a share of the lead. She moved out in front thanks to a birdie on the par-five 18th.
"I'm just pleased to have played well today and hit some close shots to get some birdies out there," Prammanasudh said. "This is a completely different golf course than we've played previous weeks. You just have to try to play the golf course. There are some tricky holes out there and the elevation plays a big part in things and picking the right club is definitely key."
Sorenstam, who has won this event the last two years, could not get anything going early on. She cruised to 11 straight pars to begin her round. At the par-five 12th, Sorenstam left herself three feet for birdie.
The Swede converted that putt and came right back with an nine-foot birdie putt on 13. Sorenstam ran home a birdie effort from 16 feet out on 16 to move to minus-three. Two pars later, she was finished a bogey-free round.
"I thought it was a good round considering it was my first competition of the season," said Sorenstam, who has won her first start of the season each of the last three years. "I had a good off season where I had a chance to rest and a chance to practice, but you never know what it's going to be like to put a score together."
Davies started on the 10th tee Friday and had a strong opening nine holes. She eagled the par-five 12th, then birdied three of four holes from the 15th to make the turn at minus-five.
The Englishwoman struggled around the turn. Davies dropped a shot on three, but atoned for that error with a birdie on four. However, she faltered to a double-bogey at five.
Davies rebounded to birdie six, but gave that shot right back with a birdie on seven. She closed with a birdie on No. 9 to finish at minus-four.
Hall also started on the 10th tee. She tripped to a bogey there, but posted five birdies the rest of the way to shoot 68.
Sorenstam, Gulbis and Kim were joined in sixth by Hye Jung Choi, Il Mi Chung, Karin Sjodin, Moira Dunn, Becky Morgan and Michele Redman.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
